Current Choir

The Davis Youth Flute Choir meets weekly during the school year at the Davis Art Center. It provides young musicians with the rare opportunity to cross over from classical to jazz.

In May of 2011 the flute choir performed its second annual benefit concert with the Camellia City Flute Choir, a Sacramento based adult flute choir under the direction of Martin Melicharek. The concert was performed in the Atrium of the Davis Art Center.  Each choir performed works separately, and then joined forces to perform Fugue for Two Choirs with Two Counter-Subjects by Hector Berlioz arranged by Martha Rearick.  The double choir had about thirty flutists including some four bass flutes, two contra bass flutes, and four alto flutes.  The proceeds from the concert paid for the overhaul of a piccolo donated to Emerson Jr. High School.  The past two years before that the choir presented new or overhauled piccolos to both Holmes Jr. High and Harper Jr. High.
